He was a soldier in the Prussian-Austria war of 1866, and in the German-French war of 1870-71. On November 12, 1871, he was married to Louise Martens, she dying April 18, 1913. To them were born four children, one son and three daughters, the son dying in infancy. In 1881 they came to this country, where the family took up farming in the vicinity of Cresco.
In 1903 he with his wife retired from active life and removed to Cresco. On July 20, 2013, he moved with his daughter, Mrs. L. M. Cole, where he passed quietly away at 12:30 a. m., Monday, Feb. 2, 1914, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 25 days. He leaves to mourn his loss, three daughters, two brothers, two sisters and ten grandchildren.
The funeral was held Thursday from Immanuel’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Pless officiating. Burial in New Oregon cemetery,
