Simon S. Philbrick was born in Dubuque, Dubuque county, Iowa, in 1838. Died Jan. 31, 1914, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was married to Eveline A. Mitchell, Oct 23, 1881 in New Oregon township. To them two children were born, first child died in infancy. To mourn his lose is a wife and son William Earl Philbrick. He enlisted in the army in 1862 in the 18th Illinois, serving three years. He was a man well liked by all who knew him, and was upright and honest in all dealings in life, and was a patient sufferer for a number of years.

Services were held at the house Feb. 2nd, conducted by Rev. F. C. Shaffer, and burial was at New Oregon cemetery.
