Mary Josephine Louvar Stark died Monday October 26, 2009 at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center at the age of 79.

Mary was born April 11, 1930 on a farm near Saratoga, Iowa, daughter of Jerry and Mayme (Kakac) Louvar. She married Kenneth H. Stark on December 26, 1952 in Riceville, Iowa.

Mary enjoyed teaching in a one-room rural school for 5 years and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown Birthday Club, Riceville Live and Learn Club, and Austin Gem & Mineral Society. She enjoyed reading and writing, recording and organizing family histories. Mary spent time on nature walks and presenting wild flowers, bird, rock and fossil programs. Traveling and rock hunting with Ken and visiting and playing with the grandchildren was always a joy. She also passed on her love and musical talents on to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Steve) Brooks, Jackson, Missouri; Diane (Larry) Gronewold, Ramsey, Minnesota; and Judy (Ron) Tippett, Galena, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Scott Brooks, Stacey (Brooks) Buttry, Shanna, Alyssa, Brittany and Tiffany Gronewold, Ken and Joseph Tippett, two sisters, Helen (Louvar) Stark of Riveville, Iowa and Barbara (Louvar) Soper of Albert Lee, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her father Jerry Louvar in 1963, her mother Mayme (Kakac) Louvar in 1988, husband Kenneth Stark in 1993.

Memorials may be made to the Wapsi Trail, Riceville Library, Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center, or charity of your choice.

Cemetery:
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, Iowa.

Visitation:
Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 7 P.M. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.

Service:
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 31, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastors Randy Nichols, Dan Christensen, and Mary Hatch officiating.
