Melvin Ott, 82, of Cresco, IA passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his home.
Mel was born on January 2, 1927 in Howard County to John and Mary (Junge) Ott. He attended rural school through the 8th grade. After that time he worked on local farms until he was drafted into the Army on April 5, 1945. His infantry training was at Camp Walters, TX, and he served with the Army of Occupation in Korea. He received his discharge on December 30, 1946. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion. Mel went to work for Hawkeye Tri County R.E.C. in March 1947. He was employed there for 44 years until his retirement in April 1991.
On September 3, 1952 he married Audrey Milbrath at First Lutheran Church. Mel was an active member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, and tending his garden. Mel was always ready to go for coffee with his friends. He will be remembered for his generous personality.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey, son Jim and wife Jo of Urbandale, IA, grandson, Brad and fiance Erin McCoy and grandson Marc. Survivors also include three sisters: Lucille Borseth, Joyce Ormsby and Janice Mollenhoff; two brothers: Orvald (Lenora) and Francis (Gerry) along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Alvera Richardson and Irene Pittelko and four brothers: Ervin, Florian, Herbert and John

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 4-7 p.m. on Friday evening, and also one hour prior to services at the church.Service:
