Duane Gunhus, 71, of Cresco, IA passed away on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 at the Patty Elwood Center, Cresco IA. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 07th at 11:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco. Burial was at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.

Duane Donald Gunhus was born on September 17, 1937 in Howard County, IA to Arthur and Evelyn (Benson) Gunhus. He attended grade school in a one room country school house in Winneshiek County near the family farm. He graduated from Cresco High School in 1955. He married the love of his life, Gelene Peter in 1958. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage.

Duane worked in retail dairy delivery for 11 years. He also worked for AAA Motor Club of Iowa for 20 years. He retired from AAA in 1992. After retirement he drove school bus for 9 years.

Duane had a great love of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at his home farm. He also liked to travel. Duane was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA his entire life, and was on the board of Oak Lawn Cemetery for many years.

He was very proud of his children, Kirk and Lori, and enjoyed being with them and his grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his wife, Gelene of Cresco, IA, two children, Kirk of Cresco, IA and his fiance, Ginny Burbach of Darlington, WI, Lori (Linus) Balik of Cresco, IA, three grandchildren, Dustin Gunhus, Mandy (Aaron) Blau, and Austin Balik, and one brother, Larry (Lois) Gunhus of Decorah, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn.
