Mary Vlk, 97, services held

Funeral services for Mary Vlk were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco. The Rev. Michael L. Tauke officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pall bearers were: Kevin Vlk, Barb Merritt, Debi Kloberdanz, Karen Pecinovsky, Brad Pecinovsky and Brian Pecinovsky. Conway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary, 97, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

Mary Vlk was born December 8, 1902 at Hayfield, the daughter of John and Josephine (Strnad) Vlk. She attended school during her elementary years and moved with her family from Iowa to Minnesota and back to Iowa. In the late 1940’s, she moved to Cedar Rapids and worked at Mercy Hospital. Following her retirement, she moved back to Cresco to be near her daughter and family.

Mary was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church, and the Assumption Altar and Rosary Society.

She liked to sew, patch clothes, crochet, embroider, play cards, and loved to bake.

Mary is survived by one son: Robert of Hiawatha; one daughter Angie Drtina of Cresco; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Frank of Cresco; and two sisters: Agnes Shileny of Cresco, and Carrie Jirik of Mahnomen. MN.

She was preceded in death by one great grandson; her parents; and three brothers: John, Henry, and Joseph.
