Funeral services for Wayne Thompson were held Sunday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco. Rev. Gary K. Lee and Intern Gail Hermondson officiated. Interment will be at a later date at the Thompson Cemetery. Honorary pall bearers were: Eugene Novak, Arnold Kubalsky Byron Knox, Arnold Spier, Marvin Thompson, Arnold Skoda, Charles DeWalle, Donald Starks and Glen Ebenhoh. Pall bearers were: Todd Nauman, Ben Nauman, Brook Biggers, Bill Vaith, J.J. Knowles, Phil Wycoff and Allan Loney. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Wayne, 76, died Wednesday, September 6, 2000 at his home.
Wayne Merle Thompson was born January 7, 1924 on the home farm, Steele Co. MN, the son; of William and Synnevah (Tolefson) Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, MN. Wayne attended a rural school through the 8th grade and graduated from Claremont High School. He farmed with his father on the home farm, which was a Minnesota Century Farm known as the Thompson homestead.
In 1946 Wayne and Norma Mork were married at Kenyon, MN. They continued to farm until back problems faced Wayne to make a change. Wayne and his family then moved to Cresco in 1960 when he joined the Archer Petroleum Corporation as a district manager for Northeast Iowa and Southern Min¬nesota. He later became division manager serving several states.
Wayne and Norma enjoyed a lot of time traveling the United States and Canada, and in 1981 they spent time in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, spending time visiting relatives in Norway.
He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife Norma; two daughters: Roxanne Nauman of Rochester, MN and Julie Wheeler of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister: Arlene Loney of Owatonna, MN.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Bernice Sorenson and Violet Vaith.
