Memorial services for Evelyn Tass of Mason City were held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 21 at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel. The Rev. Carl A. Ries of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church officiated.
According to her wishes, Evelyn’s body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines.
Evelyn, 79, died Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.Evelyn R. Tass was born May 3, 1920 in Cresco, the daughter of Ray and Alice (Redfern) Ritter. She graduated from North Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught Kindergarten through 12th grade for ten years. Most of those years at a rural school near Cresco.
On June 24, 1948 she married Clarence Tass in Charles City. They moved to Mason City. After the children were grown, she worked as a substitute teacher and librarian for the Mason City School District.
She loved to cook, can foods, work in her garden, read poetry, and write in her journals.
Survivors include her husband Clarence of Mason City; three sons: David and Steven both of Mason City and Charles of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter Mary Jo Wells of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren; and one sister: Bernice Griest of California.
Evelyn was preceded in death by one grandson; her parents; and one brother. Eldred.
