ELMA - Dale M. Schroeder, 73, died Monday, Jan. 24 of cancer at his home.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27 at the First United Methodist Church in Elma with Rev. Catherine Luck presiding. Dr. Curtis Rainy was the organist and accompanied Jerry Hart, soloist. Hymns included "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art and "On Eagle's Wings".

Interment was in the Howard County Cemetery at Elma with Gary Ries, Russell Schroeder Jr., Joe Hart, John Worple, Roger Schroeder and Kevin Crooks serv¬ing as casket bearers.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma and at the church an hour before service time.

Dale McKinlay Schroeder was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Afton Township, rural Elma, the son of Homer and Myrtle (Diestler) Schroeder. He attended Elma High School.

Dale was married to Jeanette DeVries on Jan. 30, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Elma. After their marriage they farmed northeast of Elma until 1963 when they owned and operated Schroeder Locker in Alta Vista. After his semi-retirement in 1986, he delivered trailers for S & S Trailers. Dale kept busy with some hobby farming (chickens, sheep, etc.). He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, card and board games and spending time with his family. He and Jeanette celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1998.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and was a volunteer fireman for the Alta Vista Fire Department, was a member of the Alta Vista Commercial Club and of the Iowa Locker Association. He and Jeanette have lived on the Schroeder home farm the last 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; one son, Patrick (Connie), Pine Island, MN; one daughter, Vicki Halverson (and friend, Joe Huber), Cresco; six grandchildren; five brothers, Russell, Charles City, Robert, Osage, Kenneth, Albert Lea, MN, Dean, Chester and Ron, Long Beach, CA; and two sisters, Evelyn Hart, Elma and Wanda Stueber, Ridgeway, SC.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Lois Schroeder, in infancy.
