LAWLER -- Mildred Reissner, 79, formerly of Lawler, died Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Park Centre Health Care Center, Newton, of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the Mass. The pall was placed on the casket by her three children. Lector for the service was Joe Scally.

Interment was in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church Cemetery with Pat Sheridan, Pat Costigan, Bob Huinker, Tom Leonard, Lyle Njus and Dave Croatt as pallbearers.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 m. on Friday, Jan. 21 at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home in Lawler where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Parish Scripture Service.

Mildred was born July 20,1920 in Protivin, the daughter of Mike and Mary (Lukes) Mikesh. She attended school in Protivin and graduated at the age of 16. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural country school near Protivin for two years.

On June 3,1941 she married Cyril Reissner in Protivin. The couple then lived and farmed near Little Turkey until 1987 at which time they moved to Lawler. In 1988 Mildred retired from food service at the Turkey Valley Community School where she had worked for many years. Cyril died Sept. 5, 1991 while the couple lived in Lawler.

In December of 1994 Mildred moved to Newton to live in an apartment and to be near her daughter. She later moved to the assisted living area of Park Centre Health Care Center.

Mildred was a long-time 4-H leader, a former member of Assumption Parish, Little Turkey, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. She enjoyed sewing, Bridge, reading and listening to music.

Survivors include one son, Tom (Mary) Reissner, Spencer; two daughters, Ann (Tom) Murray, Bettendorf and Lynn (John) Keller, Newton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Milton (Shirley) Mikesh, Water¬loo; and a brother-in-law, Robert Reissner, Little Turkey.
