Ellen Quandt, 70, services held

Funeral services for Ellen Quandt of West Union were held Tuesday, September 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. Associate Pastor Susan Friedrich officiated. Interment was in West Union Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Ellen, 70, died Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in West Union of cancer.

Ellen H. Quandt was born September 28, 1931 in Cresco, the daughter of Leon and Ida (Queel) Davis. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at First Lutheran Church of Cresco. She graduated from Cresco High School in 1949. She attended Luther College in Decorah to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught rural school in Howard County and grade school in Grafton.

On June 13, 1954 she married Robert Quandt at First Lutheran Church of Cresco.

Ellen enjoyed her life as a homemaker, farming with her husband and later as librarian of the public library of West Union for 25 years.

Survivors include three daughters: Karen Todd of West Des Moines, Kathy Grove of Clear Lake and Ruth Topp of Hubbard; two sons: Jim of East Moline, II. and John of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; two sisters: Bernice Minear of Cresco and Evelyn Mohlis of Spring Valley, MN; and one brother: Marvin of Cresco.
