Opal F. Polen, 76, of Montezuma, formerly of Fort Dodge, died May 23, 2000 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services were May 26 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Lyle Hansen officiating. Burial was in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Gunderson Funeral Home of Fort Dodge was in charge of arrangements.
Opal is survived by her husband, Harry K. (Kenny) Polen, of Montezuma; brother, James Womack, of Riceville; sister, Gladys, of Charles City; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peal and Olive Mary (Wilden) Womack, five sisters and four brothers.
Opal Womack was born May 3, 1924 at Elma, Iowa. She attended schools at Riceville and Mclntire and graduated from Mclntire High School. On March 27, 1942 she married Harry (Kenny) Polen at Riceville. The couple moved around the United States as Kenny served in the military. She was a child care provider for many years.
The couple returned to Riceville where they lived until moving to Goldfield. They then moved to Fort Dodge where they lived for 28 years. She was employed at Sears, Sunset Trailer Court and Village Green Trailer Court. In 1985, the couple moved to Montezuma where Opal worked for the Montezuma Marina prior to becoming ill.
She was active in sewing, arts, crafts and cooking.
