Gerald L. Nosek, 66, rural Chester

Services were held Friday, April 28 at United Methodist Church in Chester for Gerald L. Nosek, 66, rural Chester farmer, who died Tuesday afternoon, April 25, 2000, enroute to the hospital following an apparent heart attack.

The Rev. Robert Holdorf officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Interment was in Bethlehem Cemetery in Beaver Township, Fillmore County.

Mr. Nosek was born June 29, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Paul and Elsie (Grumbacher) Nosek. He grew up in Iowa City and was a 1951 graduate of City High School where he was a member of the 1950 state championship football team. He went on to play for the University of Iowa on a football scholarship.

In 1952 he entered the U.S. Navy and was part of the Seabees unit stationed on Guam in the South Pacific until 1954. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve for seven years after returning to the United States.

He was united in marriage to Alice Parsons Sept. 1, 1954, and the couple had three daughters. They moved to a farm two miles north of Chester. Iowa in 1957 where he was engaged in farming with his father and brother. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4114 in Spring Valley and a member of Chester United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; daughters Cyndie Nosek, West Concord, Minn., Kathy (Dan) Dubiel, Minneapolis and Debby (John) Williams, also of Minneapolis. Also five granddaughters Autumn, Jessica, Jennifer and Laura Dubiel and Gwen Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Frederick.

Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home, LeRoy, was in charge of arrangements.
