Services held for Gladys Manwiller

Gladys “Kathryn” Manwiller. 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in her home after a long illness. Services were Friday, Jan. 28, at Immanuel Baptist Church with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Ed Gregory officiated.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd; children, Floyd Manwiller and wife Mary of Ames, Evanell Conner and husband Ralph of Winslow, Ariz., Edna Gilleland and husband Clifford of Freeport, Ill., Reta Meier and husband Jack of Cedar Rapids and Eldon Manwiller and wife Marie of High Point, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Eastman of Riceville, and Gretta Fisher and husband C.H. of Chelsea; and three half brothers, John, Cecil and Bill Staley, and three half sisters, Peggy Donnanco, Priscilla Mayer and Marlene Conway, all of Canada. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Betty Ann Manwiller; parents, Peter and Edna Staley and stepmother Reta Staley ; half brother, Jim Staley, and grandson, Jack Meier, Jr.

Gladys was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Howard County, the daughter of Peter Staley and Edna Errington Staley. She married Floyd L. Manwiller on July 4, 1933, in Riceville.

Gladys was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Baptist Church or St. Luke’s Hospice.
