Funeral services for Carl Mandelko, formerly of Harmony, MN were held Sunday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Granger. Rev. Keith Parker officiated. Interment was in St. Matthew Cemetery in rural Granger. Thauwald Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Carl, 97, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at the Preston Good Samaritan Center.
Carl H. Mandelko was born October 28, 1902 in Howard County, the son of Charles and Ida (Krueger) Mandelko. He moved to Bristol Township, Fillmore County, at the age of four. He attended Granger and Blooming Valley grade schools and also completed a business course. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Granger where he was a life long member.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and after retirement he enjoyed woodworking and golfing.
Survivors include his wife Vilda; one daughter: Delone Langum of Chandler, AZ; two sons: Delbert and Allan both of Preston; 12 grandchildren; 30 greatgrandchildren; and five great-greatgrandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by one son, a greatgrandson, an infant brother and four sisters.
On August 28, 1926 he married Vilda Krueger at her parents home in Howard County. The couple farmed near Granger, later moving to the Greenleafton, MN area. When they retired they moved to Harmony.
Carl sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 39 years, served on several school boards and was a township officer. He was an active church member, serving on the church council and St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery Board.
