George Klimesh services held

Funeral services for George Klimesh of Cresco were held Wednesday, October 4 at St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco. Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Cresco. Honorary pall bearers were his grandchildren: Melissa and Tim Knoll, Lacey and Lenny Mclntire, Jessica, David, Amanda, Colin, Hillary, Travis, Liza, Alston and Zachary Klimesh, Andrew, Adam, Scotti Lynn and Matthew Schon. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

George, 72, died Monday, October 2, 2000 at his home.

George Gerald Klimesh was born on a farm in Winneshiek County, between Protivin and Spillville, on May 5, 1928, the son of George and Augusta (Houdek) Klimesh. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville. He attended the rural school and helped his father with the fanning, and then worked in Spillville in the plumbing and hardware store.

George entered the Air Force on Septembr 6, 1950 and served two years overseas. .

On July 13, 1953 he married Alice Waterfield in West Suffolk, England. He was discharged on August 25, 1954 and they returned to the United States. When he returned to Iowa, he worked in die plumbing and hardware for about seven years and then went farming for about seven years.

George spent most of his working years driving truck for various companies.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching TV, and doing little odd jobs around the house.

He was a member of the Catholic Workmen, Spillville branch. Survivors include his wife Alice; four daughters: Joan Knoll of New Hampton, Gwen Mclntire of Cresco, Janet Schon of Waukon, and Judy Klimesh of Cresco; two sons: David of Becker, MN and Dean of Lourdes; 17 grandchildren; four brothers: Glen of Cresco, Gordon, of Spillville, Gabe of Calmar, and Gary of Burlington; and three sisters: Gayle Hudecek of Cresco, Greta Kriener of Spillville and Gloria Klimesh of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Gwen Klimesh as an infant and Georgina Andera.
