Keith W. "Peachy" Johnson, 82

Services were held Monday, December 4, 2000 for Keith W. Johnson at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, Iowa. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery also in Lime Springs.

Keith W. "Peachy" Johnson, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 after collapsing at home of an apparent heart attack.

He was born on October 27, 1918 at Mclntire, Iowa, the son of Bertiss and Laura (Westendorf) Johnson. He graduated from Mclntire High School and went to work for the railroad.

On January 18, 1942, he was united in marriage to Bernice McMaster. From this union, three children were born. Following their marriage, "Peachy" joined the U.S. Army and served in the Battle of Normandy during WWII. Following the service he returned to Lime Springs, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He spent his life as a bookkeeper, working for Price Grocery, A & K, Farmers Feed and Grain in Riceville and retired from the Exchange State Bank in Lime Springs. During these busy years, he liked to travel, did a little hunting and fishing and played a little golf. He spent many years on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Board. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Lime Springs for over 50 years. "Peachy" was happy working and spending good times with his family. He was very pleased to have his grandchildren and great grandchildren visit.

He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, two sons: David of Lime Springs, Iowa, Tom and wife Barbara of Clear Lake, Iowa, one daughter, Kerry and husband John Maitland of Parkersburg, Iowa, 7 grandchildren: Mark Maitland and wife Marge, Jeanie and husband Darrin Smith, John Maitland and wife Tammy, Brent Maitland and wife Nicole, and Aaron Maitland; Greg and Andy Johnson; 10 great grandchildren; one half sister, Josephine Stuckey of Mclntire, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half brother; Beryl Johnson, and a half sister: Nina Eichmeier.

Rev. Robert Holdorf presided over the service and the Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were the grandsons, Anna Mae Davis accompanied Phyllis Stevenson who sang, "My God and I" and "How Great Thou Art". Military services were conducted by the American Legion Post 545 of Lime Springs.
