ELMA-- Leona H. Jacoby, 86, of Elma, died Wednesday, July 5 of natural causes at ColoniaJ Manor Home, Elma

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8 at Immaculate Conception Church, Elma with Reverend John Moser presiding. Marge Gansen will be organist and accompany the church choir. Her three daughters will place the pall. Sharon McDowell will be lector and Nicole and Vern Klobassa will be servers. Gift bearers will be Theresa Johnson, Michelle Hightower, Cindy Cartney, Connie Anderson, Kim Roth and Carte Jacoby.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Todd, Joe and Richard Jacoby, Jr., Amy Meirick, Jason Cartney, Robert Hackman, Jeffery Quinn and Jammie Spitzner serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conway Funeral Home, Elma where there will be a 4:30 rosary and a 7 p.m. scripture.

Leona Helen Jacoby was born Dec. 11, 1913 at rural New Hampton, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Lasche) Hovermen. She was a graduate of St. William's High School in Alta Vista and was married to Merle Jacoby Jan. 31, 1933 at Alta Vista. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Elma until retiring and making their residence in Elma.

Leona was a cook for the Immaculate Conception school lunch program and later the Main Diner Cafe in New Hampton. She was cook for Colonial Manor in later years

and also worked at Comprehensive Systems in Elma. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Rosary Society. She loved to travel, play cards, garden and bowl.

Survivors include four sons: Francis (Myrna), Waterloo, James (Shirley), Evansdale, Richard, Victor and Danny, Waterloo; three daughters: Kathleen (Donald) Hackman, New Hampton, Sandra (Bob) Quinn, Glenville, MN and Mary Jean Cartney, Cisago City, MN; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand daughter.

Preceding her were her husband Merle, Sept. 13, 1990; two sons, Wayne and John Edward (a twin of James), in infancy; one sister, Marie Klobassa and three brothers, Ed, Aloysius and Carl Hoverman.

Transcriber’s Note: Her maiden name is spelled two different ways – Hovermen and Hoverman.
