Funeral services for Shawn Ehlert of Marion, formerly of Cresco, were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16 at the St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco with burial at a later date. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Shawn, 29, died Sunday, March 12, 2000 at his home.

Shawn Wallace Ehlert was born October 13, 1970 in Dubuque, the son of Wallace and Joan (Mohrhauser) Ehlert. He moved to Cresco with his family in 1974. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cresco in May of 1989. In December of 1993, he graduated cum laude from Loras College in Dubuque receiving a major in communications, a major in public speaking and a minor in psychology.

Shawn was employed at various jobs, including the Cresco Municipal Pool, Carlin’s Pizza, Mom’s Diner and Featherlite Trailers and was currently employed at Frontier Telecommunications of Cedar Rapids. He was active in Cresco Community Theatre, Loras Players, and mock trials at college.

He liked to watch wrestling, the Lakers basketball games, and play cards, especially the game “Overpower.” He collected comic books, Batman and Superman paraphernalia.

Survivors include his mother, Joan Wernett of Cresco; his father, Wallace of Dubuque; three sisters: Tina Ehlert of Prairie du Chien, Inez Ehlert and Amber Wernett both of Cresco; one brother: Specialist Conrad Wernett, U.S. Army stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC; and his grandmother Mary Mohrhauser of Cresco.

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents: Albert and Selma Ehlert and George Mohrhauser.
