Memorial services for Ollie “Betty” Combs of Grinnell, were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Rev. Del Dawes of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiated. Her body was deeded to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department in Iowa City.

Ollie, 80, died Saturday, December 2, 2000 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center of a heart attack.

Ollie Combs was born June 28,1920 in Bison, SD, the daughter of Earl C. and Eugenia Ann McKinstry. In 1925, the family moved to Spearfish, SD and in 1936 she moved with her family to Cresco, where she graduated from high school.

On January 1, 1943 she married Dr. Bertrand O. Combs in Ames. The couple lived in several Iowa communities prior to moving to Grinnell in 1976. She was employed as a medical transcriptionist at several hospitals including Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Pella Hospital, and Grinnell Regional Medical Center. She retired in 1982.

She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter: Sara Donnelinger of Anoka, MN; two sons: Kenard of Des Moines and Bernard of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren; and one brother: Raymond of Rapid City, SD.

Ollie was preceded in death by her husband; a child in infancy; her parents; one sister; and three brothers.
