Jerry Lybbert, age 84 of Cresco died Saturday evening, June 18, 2016 at the Hawkeye
Care Center in Cresco.

Jerald Frank Lybbert was born April 27, 1932 at Cresco, Iowa to Frank and Edna (Hoopman) Lybbert. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bonair Methodist Church. He attended area schools and graduated from Cresco High School in 1950. Jerry married Elaine Everman on June 21, 1958 at Zion Lutheran of Castalia, IA.

Jerry became a Registered Medical Technologist in 1954, which became his life-long career, retiring in 1995. Over the years he received many national awards from the American Medical Technologist Society. He was a member of the Red Cross National Disaster Team, a member of the Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered and coordinated the Escort program for the Hospital Auxiliary.

Since 1965 Jerry has been a member of First Lutheran Church, of which he served in several capacities on the church council. Jerry was also very civic minded; he served as Mayor and Councilman for the city of Cresco and served on Cresco's Board of Variance for 28 years. He also volunteered at the Cresco Chamber of Commerce office and at the monthly Food Pantry. During retirement Jerry and Elaine enjoyed trips organized by CUSB.

Jerry is survived by his wife Elaine Lybbert of Cresco; two children: Kaia (Mark) Petersen of Muscatine, Iowa, and Kent (Anita) Lybbert of Mason City, Iowa; five grandchildren: Mira (Christopher) Reisen, Lea Petersen (fiancé Alex Belianinov), Dana (Aaron) Thomas, Ross Lybbert, and Blake Lybbert; one great-granddaughter, Ali Thomas; and one sister, Janell (Larry) Jacobsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and a sister-in-law: James Lybbert and Jack (Ruby) Lybbert.
