James C. Fellows.
Passed to a higher life, February 9, 1896, at 12:30 a. m., from his home in Riceville, Iowa. James C. Fellows, aged 71 years, 7 months and 2 days. The subject of this sketch was born in Boscawen, N. H. When eighteen years of age he moved to Boston, where he resided 14 years. From there he went to Altoona, Pa., where he was united in marriage with Eliza M. Kerr. He came west in 1856, settling in Howard county, Iowa, where he endured all the hardships of pioneer life. He was a man of unreproachable character and one who was always ready to lend a helping hand to the needy.
His wife and three children survive him; Mrs. A. L. Pierce of Minneapolis, Mrs. E. Herring and Mrs. L. M. Mosher of Riceville. He was a kind husband and father. His long and useful life is ended but he still lives in the hearts of those who knew him.
The Masonic order took charge of the funeral, rendering their solemn and impressive service at the grave.
So live that when these cassia leaves
Shall blend with thy forgotten dust,
Kind Mother Earth, who all receives,
Will yield, unchanged her sacred trust,
While angels lead thee to the throne,
And God, the Master, claims his own.
