Services held for Laura Dahly Roe, 95

Laura Dahly Roe, 95, Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, and formerly of Riceville, Lime Springs and LeRoy, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at the nursing home.
A funeral service for Laura Dahly Roe was held Friday, March 10 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Rev. Curt Schneider officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs with Fullerton Hage Funeral Home of Charles City handling arrangements.
Mrs. Dahly Roe, the former Laura Elizabeth March, was born November 23, 1904, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Johanna (Schwartz) March. Following her father's death as a young child, she moved with her family to Pender, Neb. and then South Dakota. They then made their home around Lime Springs. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. On May 3, 1923, at the Bloomfield Lutheran Parsonage, rural Ostrander, Minn., Laura was united in marriage to Ole H. Dahly. The couple farmed south of LeRoy. Mr. Dahly died March 30, 1940 in Rochester. Mrs. Dahly worked in LeRoy for some time after that.
In 1951, she married Lawrence H. Roe and they made their home in rural Riceville where they farmed. Following their retirement, Lawrence and Laura moved to Charles City. Mr. Roe died November 21, 1968. Laura continued to live in Charles City until moving to Riceville in 1990 to be near her son. She returned to Charles City to reside at the 11th St. Chautauqua Guest home in 1998.
Mrs. Dahly Roe was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and the Dorcas Circle of the church. She and her husband Lawrence were instrumental in the formation years at Messiah. While in Riceville, she was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was also a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. She was a member of the FCNB Heritage Club, and a former member of the VFW Auxiliary of Charles City. She loved to travel with Lawrence during the winter to Florida, Texas, and Arizona. Laura was an artist of exceptional note, especially in the areas of oil painting and tatting.
Those thankful for being a part of Laura's life include a son and his wife, Donald and Irma Dahly of Riceville,; a sister, Mrs. Marie Bock of Spring Valley, Minn.; two grandchildren, LaVonne Byrnes and her husband Edward of Riceville and Jerry "Joe" Dahly of Arlington, Tex.; five great-grandsons and one great-great granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Johanna (Schwartz) March, her step-father, John Ahlers, her husbands, Ole H. Dahly and Lawrence Roe, and two sisters, Edna Reis and Alma Doering.
