Funeral Service Held Saturday For Evan Parry, 83 Years
Evan Parry, the son of the late Evan and Ann Parry, was born at Waen Pentir, Carnarvonshire, North Wales, G.B., May 28, 1868. His home was an old-fashioned Christian home, not allowed to do any work on the Sabbath Day, only the things that belonged to the Sanctuary. His father was an elder in the Congregational Church. The Sunday school meant great things to Evan Parry. The Bible was his book. He was reading it the fourteenth time when he became a very sick man last December. As a young man he started to work in the slate quarry, and became an expert in his work.
In 1891, he was united in marriage at Carnarvon, North Wales, to Miss Elizabeth Jones. They made their home for some years at Waen Pentir. Out of this union one son was born, Evan Ellis Parry, who was well known in Howard County. He preceded his parents in death May 24, 1942.
In 1912, Mr. and Mrs. Parry emigrated to Canada, where they stayed a very short time. Then they came to the U.S.A, living in Chicago, Ill. His sister and family lived there. The Parry's moved from the city to a farm near Kenosha, Wis., and from there they moved on a farm near West Winfield, New York. There they lived for 18 years, and there they enjoyed life on the farm, and made their religious home in a Congregational church. He was a very worthy Sabbath School teacher. How he enjoyed talking about the Heavenly things!
In 1938, they moved to Lime Springs, Iowa, and united through the letters with the Presbyterian Church.
Thursday morning, August 9, 1951, he passed away peacefully at 5:45. His beloved wife preceded him in the Great Beyond June 2, 1944.
The funeral service was held at the Weaver Funeral Chapel at Lime Springs, Saturday afternoon, August 11, 1951. Mr. Parry is survived by one grandson Lester Parry, who is serving in the U.S Navy; several nieces and nephews. One niece and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Hugh M. Evans, Chicago, were with him when he passed away.
Honorary pallbearers were M.H. Jones, Charles Dotzenrod, S.H. Roberts, and W.R. Williams. Pallbearers: J. Ryce Jones, T.E. Jones, Robert Jones, James Shoemaker, Archie Roberts, and Paul Goodman. Peace be unto him in Pleasant Hill Cemetery until the Resurrection Morn.
