Lorraine Stevensen Kemmer, of Falcon Heights, Minn. died on Aug. 24, 2013 in St. Anthony Park.
Lorraine Meriam Stevensen was born March 29, 1927 in Chester, Iowa to Henry Stevensen and Laura Nikoley. She graduated from Chester High School in 1945 and attended Macalester College and the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in Home Economics in 1949. In 1949 she also married Eugene Kemmer of Spring Valley, Minn. They had three children, Steven, Jeff and Janine. They also had a fourth ‘child,’ a pet crow, who for 28 years used to liven up Halloween in Falcon Heights. They built their house in Falcon Heights in 1953, where she lived for the past 60 years. Mr. Kemmer died in 1990.
Lorraine was active in 4-H; Campfire Girls of St. Paul, where she was a House Manager with the Chimera Theater ushering program for many years; Minnesota Genealogy Association, particularly the Danish Group; the Minnesota Women’s Consortium, where she did legislative monitoring of women’s issues; and Minnesota Home Economists in Homemaking. She was awarded Home Economist of the Year in 1995. She loved nature and was an avid bird watcher and gardener. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by husband, Eugene. She is survived by children, Steve (Joan), Jeff (Deb) and Janine Kemmer; and granddaughter, Sara Kemmer. Private family services to be held.
