Mathilda Milz, 86, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at the Cresco Care Center.
Mathilda M. Milz was born on Aug. 11, 1925 to Joseph and Martha (Strnad) Pecinovsky in Protivin, Iowa. She attended grade school at Rudolphinum in Protivin. After the eighth grade, Mathilda began working as a hired girl, taking care of mothers and babies until her marriage. On Feb. 11, 1946, Mathilda married Charles Milz at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin; he preceded her in death on Oct, 25, 2004. Mathilda enjoyed spending time making crafts, attending craft shows and baking. She always had a good time playing cards, bingo and trying her luck at casinos.
Mathilda was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Regional Health Services Auxiliary, Howard Residential Care Facility Auxiliary, Farm Bureau and liked to help at her church. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since her marriage and now Notre Dame Catholic Church. Later in her life Mathilda enjoyed traveling overseas twice, traveling with friends and taking day trips. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mathilda is survived by her daughter, Donna (Duayne) Bothun of Birchwood, Wis. and their children, Kimberly (Jeremy) and Kristina (Mark); her son, Tom (Pat) of Stewartville, Minn. and their children, Steve (Erin) and Scott (Erin); her daughter, Elaine (Larry Bergmann) Mayo of Lawler, Iowa and her children, Shelley (Matt) and Sherry (Jose); 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, Jerry Pecinovsky of Des Moines, Iowa; her sisters, Delores (Ray) Schmitt of Winona, Minn. and Judy Busta of Protivin; two sisters-in-law, Katherine and Luella; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard and Don; and a sister, Elsie Schoeberl.
A Mathilda Milz Memorial Fund has been established.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2, 2012 at Notre Dame Catholic Church.
