Robert “Bob” Henry Jr., 77, passed away on Dec. 23, 2012 at St. Mary’s in Rochester, Minn. following a lengthy illness.
Robert Howard was born March 10, 1935, the only child of Robert Howard Sr. and Alfreda (Peterson) Henry in Washington, Penn. He was raised on the family sheep farm by his father and father’s sister, Goldie, after his mother died when he was a baby. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1953, earned his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science from Penn State University and went on to graduate school. Bob was in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. He was wed to Janet Louise Wolfe on April 20, 1963, and to this union five children were born.
An adventurous man, Bob sold his farm to the coal company in 1976 and moved his family to Lime Springs, Iowa to farm the flat ground. He later was an over-the road truck driver. His wife, Janet, accompanied him the last three years.
After retirement Bob enjoyed his morning coffee at Walker Truck Repair, telling stories with his wry sense of humor. He was a member of Lime Springs United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling with the family, trains, reading westerns, playing solitaire and carrying on his mother’s family tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July. Bob especially enjoyed when the grandkids came to visit. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Janet; his children, Marcie (Gary) Klomp of Lime Springs, Jon of Decorah, Terri Morgan of Austin, Minn. and Sue (Dave) Henkes of Independence, Iowa; and grandchildren, Nicole Klomp, Chelsey and Braxton Morgan and Lilly and Katie Henkes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Goldie; and son, Craig, in 1996.
A memorial service was held at Lime Springs United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012. He will be buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, beside his son, at a later date.Source: Lime Springs Herald, Dec. 27, 2012
