Myra Jean Lyon, 73, of Lime Springs, Iowa passed away quietly at her home on Sunday, August 28, 2011, after a 30-year struggle with rheumatoid arthritis.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, Iowa. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to services at the church. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
Jean was born to Harmon and Myra Monnik on September 18, 1937 in Penn Valley, Penn., a suburb of Philadelphia. She attended Lower Merion High School. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. with a major in Latin and minors in French and German. While on a family trip to Paris, France, she met Donald Lyon. They were married at the American Church in Paris on April 9, 1960.
Jean and Donald lived in Lime Springs, for the past 50 years, where they raised their three children. Jean was very active for many years with Eastern Star as a District Instructor as well as Grand Chaplain, and later served for many years as the Lime Springs City Clerk.
Jean is survived by her husband, Donald “Doc,” of Lime Springs; two sons, David (Veronica) and Bruce (Christine); a daughter, Carolyn (Westan) James; a sister, Carol (Edward) Huth; a cousin, Jean (Gershon) Levinson; three step-grandchildren and seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
