Harold Anderlik, 87, of Saratoga, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.
Harold Charles Anderlik was born March 28, 1923, to Charles W. and Anna (Lomica) Anderlik. He grew up near Hayden Prairie, rural Chester, Iowa, and graduated from Chester High School in 1941.
Harold married Mildred Y. (Williams) Anderlik on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1952, in the Lime Springs Presbyterian Manse.
Harold’s lifelong occupation was farming. He had a particular interest in all things mechanical. He specialized in tinkering with engines that others considered a lost cause and making them run like new again.
He had a superb memory for names and numbers, and he associated significant family events with activities on the farm. He loved to tell stories of his younger years; such as shoveling snow alongside his dad out of their long driveway and then shoveling their way back again, driving the first of a particular tractor model off the railroad car to the local dealership, filling a neighbor’s barn with hay on a single summer day, or helping on a threshing crew during fall harvest.
Harold loved his God, his family, his church and his country. He had a deep sense of compassion for anyone in need and was always among the first to help an ill or injured neighbor.
Harold was a lifelong member of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church where he and Millie raised their family.
Harold is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Millie; their three children, Jerry Anderlik of Riceville, Jean (Bruce) Smith of Kansas City, Mo. and Jeff (Josephine) Anderlik of Waynesville, Mo.; five grandchildren, two step-grandsons and one great-grandson; one sister, Marian Anderlik of Cresco; one brother, Bob (Pat) Anderlik of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church in Saratoga, Iowa. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Saratoga Cemetery.
