Fred Dieken, 99, of Lime Springs, Iowa passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa.
Fred was born on November 28, 1910 to Theodore and Grace Dieken at Davis Corners, Iowa. Fred farmed and lived in the Lime Springs area since the age of 10.
When Fred married Edna Lammers on November 4, 1936, they were the first couple married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. He and Edna farmed west of Lime Springs for more than 30 years before moving into town.
Fred is survived by two daughters, Marian (John) Thurston of Petersburg, Virg. and Shari (Joe) Sgavicchio of Richmond, Virg.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna of 71 years; one sister, Grace Strike; one brother, Ted Dieken; and a son, Charles.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.
