Merlyn W. Krueger, Sr., 92, of Friendship Village, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village. Merlyn William Krueger was born February 2, 1918, in Cresco, the son of William and Ada Mae Fox Krueger.
Merlyn married Pearl Schmidt February 18, 1943 in Lime Springs, Iowa. He had worked at Stech’s DX, Dahl Motors and then for 24 years at Rath Packing Co., retiring in 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
He was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. He and Pearl liked to travel and did so extensively. He relaxed and spent his hobby time building many beautiful pieces of furniture and grandfather clocks.
Merlyn is survived by his wife, Pearle; daughters, Kay (Gary) Dickson of Collierville, Tenn. and Sue (Elvin) Meller of Waterloo; and sons, Merlyn Krueger Jr. of Greenleafton, Minn. and Davy (Marlene) Krueger of Waterloo. Also, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Robert Dickson; James (Angela) Dickson and their sons Andrew “A.J.” and Nicholas; Jennifer (Jacob) Elwart and their children Johnathan, Julia and Josie; Scott Meller; Chad (Krueger) Strausser; Seth (Jodi) Krueger and their son Zachery; Tiffany (Shawn) Moses and their daughter Lakota; Michelle (Joe) Connell and their children Stanley, Jacob and Kaitlyn; and Heather Krueger.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents; three infant grandchildren; seven sisters, Florence Melcher, Myrtle Smith, Inez Gunnelson, Naomi Sommer, Vilda Mandelko, Lenora Lingbeck and Violet Reinhart; and one brother Eldon Kruger.
Services were held on May 25, 2010 at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials can be sent to Iowa Waterloo Christian School or Friendship Village. Condolences may be made on line at http://www.LockeFuneralHome.com .
