Donald D. Friedrich, age 81 of Elma, IA passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Afton Oaks Assisted Living in Elma.

Donald Duwayne Friedrich was born on March 27, 1934 to Daniel and Mabel (Lauck) Friedrich on the family farm in rural Elma. He attended and graduated from Riceville High School in 1952. After graduating, Donald entered in to the US Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Control Radar Repair Technician. He was honorably discharged and returned back to Iowa. Upon his return furthering his technician skills he trained and went on to work at Honeywell in Minneapolis later transferring to Des Moines where he continued to work until his retirement in 1989. After retiring Donald spent his time with many friends, woodworking hobby, making many gift for his family. He vacationed numerous times and especially enjoyed Las Vegas. He returned to Elma in June of 2011, where others of the Friedrich family joined him at Afton Oaks. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially during the Holidays and always contributed to the festivities. He had a passion for all music, especially a good polka as did his brothers. He was a self-taught accordion player.

Donald is survived by his sisters-in-law, Alberta Friedrich of Elma and Ruth Friedrich of Gilbert, AZ and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Floyd and Dale and nieces, Julie Friedrich and Rhonda Randolf.
