A. B. Barnes, who has been sick for several months without hopes of recovery died at his home Tuesday afternoon April 23. He was a man of the strictest integrity of character, a good citizen and neighbor, a kind and true parent and husband, and with these characteristics those who mourn are those who knew the man. In the biographical sketches of Howard county we find the following: “A. B. Barnes, farmer, P. O. Cresco; born in New York, in 1830, and is the third son of Charles and Sarah Barnes. At the age of twenty-five years he came to Iowa, and lived in Clayton and Lucas counties until, coming to this county in 1866. He has filled the offices of assessor and trustee, and owns 320 acres in section three. He was married in 1852, to Miss FIdelia Adams; they have five children, Charles C., Willard A.. Sarah E., Edwin C., and Edgar J. He had also been one of the justices of the Peace of this town, bringing to the discharge of its duties the conscientious character of the man. His widow and all their children survive him. Two years since he leased his farm, built a large and comfortable home in Cresco where he died. His funeral was from the Baptist church Thursday afternoon the interment being in Oak Lawn cemetery.
Later—In consequence of the non-arrival of friends who were on the way to attend the funeral, it was postponed until 10:30 today at the Baptist church.
