Viola Gesell died August 22, 2015 at the Cresco Care Center where she resided.

Viola Wilkins was born May 3, 1916 to Nettie and William Wilkins. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Cresco High School.

On December 8, 1937, she married Elmer Gesell. They farmed until Elmer passed away on July 3, 1945. She worked for Clemmer’s café, Dr. Feuling’s office as a dental assistant, the Howard County ASC office and the Decorah Hospital. She will best be remembered as the lady who sold the Waterloo Courier, retiring February 5, 1988. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her favorite hobby was golfing.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, her brother and sister-in-law, Roger and June Wilkins, her brother Willie (who died in infancy) and her special friend, Alvin Bigalk.
