On August 1, 2015, Melyndia (Lin) Kay Kitchen of Lime Springs, Iowa, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior while at home after a courageous battle against colon cancer.
Lin was born in Lindsay, Ca on October 14, 1952, to Jack and Joyce Tate. Lin grew up and graduated from high school in Southern California. She met the love of her life, Dale Kitchen, in June 1971 while doing laundry in Victorville, CA where Dale was stationed at George Air Force Base. They were married on December 31, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, IA.
Lin followed Dale from Lime Springs to LaCrosse, Wisconsin (1979) and to Redding, California (1985). They ended up buying their family home in Apple Valley, Ca (1987) where they lived until Lin retired from Interstate Brands Corp. in 2005. Coming full circle they sold their home in California (2005) and returned to Lime Springs where they enjoyed traveling together and spending time with friends and family until Dale passed away in August 2009.
Lin leaves an amazing legacy. She loved her husband and family and always put their needs before her own. She wasn't afraid of hard work and was known for her honesty and wit, her willingness to help and encourage her family to pursue their dreams. She will be remembered for her eclectic sense of style and decorating, her love of reading, movies, plays, traveling, soft sweaters, fun socks, good sheets, Pepsi, tractor pulls, drag races, seasonal scented candles and her expert laundry skills. Forever a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, aunt and loyal friend.
Lin is survived by her children, Alicia (Dale) of Redding, Ca.; her son Arthur of Long Beach, MS; her four grandchildren, Hannah and Rebekah Watt; Dalin and Spencer Kitchen; her mother and father, Jack and Joyce Tate of Hesperia, CA; her sisters Marsha (Vince) and Susan; sister-in-law, Tessa Tate; brother-in-law, James (Kim) Kitchen; great aunts and uncles and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and her younger brother, Mark Tate.
An open house will be held from 1:30 - 4:00 on Friday, August 7, 2015, at her home in Lime Springs. Burial will take place at Oak Hills Cemetery in Granger, MN during a private family service.
