FORMERLY CRESCO - Alice Johnson, age 91 of St. Paul, Minn.. and formerly of Cresco, Iowa died June 1, 2015 in St. Paul. Graveside services with Military Rites will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco is assisting the family.

M. Alice Johnson was born March 29, 1924 in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Abigal (Waldo) Stevens. Alice graduated from Jefferson High School in 1941 and normal training in 1942. She taught country school for one year and later worked for J.C. Penny’s. Alice served in the Navy as a WAVE from March 30, 1944 until April 15, 1946. She was stationed at the Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Va. Following the military she worked two sessions in the State Legislature until 1957.

Alice was married in Jefferson, in November of 1957 to Luther Johnson of Belmond, Iowa. In May of 1970 the Johnson family moved to Cresco; while in Cresco Alice worked as a church secretary, a dispatcher for the Cresco Police Department and at the City Clerk’s office.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Johnson; son, Eric (Theandon) Johnson; grandchildren, Christopher and Kassondra Johnson; and her sister, Mille Bucklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Johnson; her parents, Henry and Abby Stevens; her brother. Richard Stevens; and a granddaughter, Cody Johnson.
