Beverly Jean Etscheid Sobol died on March 21, 2015 , after a long battle with cancer. She was born on May 22, 1937, to George (Murphy) and Gladys (Stepp) Etscheid of Chicago, IL, the third of nine children, eight of whom survive her: Maureen Swanberg, Kirkland, WA; Carol (Charles, Chuck) Carnicelli, Redmond, WA; George (Skip, Nancy), Stanwood, WA; Karen Dykstra, Seneca, IL; Janet Black, Redmond, WA; Gary (Lillian, Dusty), Martinez, CA; Rhein (Thanh) Etscheid, Gig Harbor, WA; and Ellen Patricia (Pat; Leonard, Lenny) Ciabattari, Spokane, WA.

Beverly married John F. Hedstrom of Chicago in 1956; he died in 1970. She married Theodore (Ted) J. Sobol of Chicago in 1977. They raised her six children while she worked as a housecleaner in Seattle, a restaurant cook in Stevens Point, WI, and a motel manager in Rhinelander, WI.

Her surviving children, all Hedstroms, include John F. (Jack; Lise) of Decorah, IA; Jeffrey (Jeff; Adriena) of Seattle, WA; Duane (Dewey; Mary Beth McKetchnie) of Cresco, IA; Beverly (Bevvie) of Cresco, IA; and Daryl of Madison, WI. She also raised two grandchildren and a great-grandchild: Christy Summers and her son Brett of North Carolina; and Mark (Sara) Summers of Three Rivers, WI. Grandchildren, all
Hedstroms, include Siri Grace (Matt Steven) of Decorah, IA; Brittni and Trinity of Seattle, WA; Erik of Seattle, WA, and Madeline of Las Vegas, NV; Jeffrey (Jeffie) of Seattle, WA; and Natasha, Zak, Chelsey, Alexis, and Hayley of Milwaukee area, WI. Great-grandchildren include Logan, Camren, Riley, and Aubree. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved daughter Sherry Lynn Summers of Mosinee, WI, in 1987; brothers-in-law Raymond Swanberg; Richard Dykstra, and Alexander Black; and oldest niece, Susan Swanberg Walker.

Beverly loved playing Yahtzee, playing softball, bike riding, gambling at casinos, cooking for crowds, and planning parties and picnics, as well as drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. She was a proud member of American Legion Post #135 of Cresco. She will be missed for her good spirits and buoyancy as a “young, fun” mother and grandmother.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
