Audrey M. Mlady, 83, of Protivin, IA passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Nick March officiating. Burial will be held at the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 123 North Main St. in Protivin, IA, with a rosary recital at 4:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Audrey Mae Lukes was born April 15, 1931 to Ray and Emma (Panos) Lukes. She was a 1949 graduate of Rudolphinum High School in Protivin, IA and was a member of the girls’ basketball team. On August 19, 1952, Audrey was united in marriage to Melvin G. Mlady at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA. Audrey was very crafty, especially when it came to wedding cake making and decorating, which she did for many years. Besides creating wedding cakes, Audrey also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and looming together rugs. When she wasn’t busy with crafts, Audrey loved to play 500 and Canasta with her family and card club, traveling with the bank on their trips, attending Czech Days, listening to Polka music, bowling, and playing the accordion when she was able to do so. Audrey was a member of the Protivin American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as a leader, Cresco VFW Auxiliary, and the Rosary Society.
Audrey is survived by her children, Michelle (Jeff) Franzen of Waverly, IA and Marinus (Sue) Mlady of Cresco, IA; 5 grandchildren, Bethany Franzen, Jessica Franzen, Kara (Tim) Brunkhorst, Courtney (Nate) Hansel, and Brittany (Travis) McIntyre; and 4 great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Coleson Hansel and Ian and Natalie Brunkhorst.
Her parents, Ray and Emma, husband, Melvin, and grandson, Greg Mlady preceded her in death.
