Loretta A. Shileny, 85, of Protivin, IA passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Nick March officiating. Burial will be held at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 123 North Main St. in Protivin, IA, with a scripture wake service held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Loretta Anna Kacer was born January 13, 1929 at home in Howard County, IA to Joseph and Anne (Stika) Kacer. She was a 1947 graduate of Rudolphinum High School in Protivin, IA. On January 27, 1948, Loretta was united in marriage to Julius Shileny and together they farmed. In her later years, Loretta was also a certified nurse aid and hospice volunteer. Around Protivin, Loretta was known as the “First Lady of Protivin Fast Pitch Softball.”

Loretta is survived by her children, Janice (Michael) Branson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dennis (Mary) Shileny of La Porte City, IA, Gerry (Jodie) Shileny of Calmar, IA, Marilyn (Andy) Fliger of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Linda Prentice of Spring Hill, FL; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

Her parents, Joseph and Anna, husband, Julius on January 5, 2007, son, John, infant son, Thomas, and sisters, Mildred Moudry and Adella Sobolik preceded her in death.
