DIED.
NASH—Webster, J. C. Nash, at Lime Springs Iowa, March 15, 1891, aged 82 years, 1 month and 22 days.
He was born in Onondaga CO., N. Y., Jan. 25, 1809. One year ago last February Father Nash’s life companion and loved wife went to be with Jesus. Till the date of her death Father Nash had been in excellent health for a man of his years, but since that time he has rapidly failed. However, the immediate cause of his death was heart failure, superinduced by la grippe.
In early manhood his first wife had died, and he seemed to shrink from being left thus alone again in his old age. He had frequently expressed a desire to precede his wife from this world, but such was not the Lord’s will; yet his lonesome stay was not long.
Mr. Nash was the father of 14 children, 8 of whom are still living, viz: three married sons living in Lime Springs, one in Cherry Grove, Minn., and one in Cresco, where they are well known in business life, and two daughters at Cherry Grove, Minn., and one at Walnut Grove, Minn., all highly respected in society.
When a boy Mr. Nash worked on the Erie Canal, and in his old age he took great pleasure in telling of it. He must have been among the last survivors of that great enterprise, which was begun in 1817 and completed in 1825.
Father Nash came west and settled in Fillmore county, Minn., in 1857. He began there with but small capital. What he accomplished and what he accumulated there after he had passed middle life is an evidence of the strong character of the man, and is, as well, an encouragement to us by demonstrating that it is never too late in life to begin to do well.
For 13 years Father Nash has made his home in Lime Springs, where his memory will long be cherished by all who knew him. More than sixty descendants, hale and hearty far above the world’s average, tell of vigorous blood and virtuous life. Many relatives and friends paid their last respects to the remains as they lay in the home from which he was buried on the afternoon of March 16th, 1891. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, assisted by Revs. Alleyn and Burgess.
