Janet Christine (Schissel) Tonjes, daughter of Ralph and Beulah Schissel was born December 20th, 1945 in Elma, Iowa. She attended school at Immaculate Conception in Elma. After graduation she worked at Conway's Grocery and then on August 19, 1965 she married Arnie Tonjes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed at Elma on the home place. Janet operated a daycare in her home for 33 years. Janet enjoyed kids, baking, gardening, rummage sales, antiques and family. Also going to the pond with Arnie to watch the geese or to fish. She enjoyed getting together to play cards or marbles. She was a member of the Saratoga Community Church all her adult life. She also liked her yearly trips to Wisconsin. Janet is survived by her husband Arnie of 49 years; a son, David and special friend, Roxy Clay of Elma; a granddaughter, Stephanie of New Hampton; a sister, Toni (Jerry) Webb of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Ruth Schissel of Waverly, Iowa; Arnies’ siblings: Marian (Morrie) Meschke, of Meza, Arizona and Edward (Joanne) Tonjes of Peoria, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Beulah Schissel; a brother Rodney Schissel; a granddaughter Whitney Tonjes; a sister-in-law Marti Tonjes, and a nephew Steve Schissel.

Visitation:
5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, 13431 Howard Ave. Elma, Iowa.

Service:
11:00 am on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, 13431 Howard Ave. Elma, Iowa.

Cemetery:
at Saratoga Cemetery.
