Helen Diesburg, age 89, of Elma, IA passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester, MN.

Helen Emilia was born on August 19, 1925 to Clemens and Mary (Lutter) Kohle on a family farm near Platte Center, NE. She was the youngest of nine children. When Helen was an infant, the family relocated to Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1948, Helen was united in marriage to William Diesburg in Canada. The couple settled in Elma, where they self-built their two-story home. To this union a daughter, Constance Marie, was born.

Helen worked various jobs throughout the Elma area. In particular, she worked for over 40 years as the rectory housekeeper for Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. Helen was proud of her Catholic faith and was a devoted member of the church where she was involved in Christian Mothers Society, Rosary Society and the A.C.C.W. Helen and Bill enjoyed many roadtrips across the United States and with visiting relatives in Canada. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed crafting, knitting, and canvas painting. Helen loved to entertain relatives and neighbors; all who visited were treated with utmost hospitality and to her delicious cooking…from scratch. Helen was a sharp card player, enjoying games of 500 and Skipbo. Faith, family and friends were cherished treasures.

Helen was fortunate to live independently until two years ago. When she suffered some health setbacks, she relocated to Rochester, MN to be closer to her family.
Blessed be her memory.

Helen is survived by her son-in-law, Paul Batt of Grand Meadow, MN; her grandchildren; Thomas Batt of Willmar, MN, Christopher (Stephanie) Batt of Willmar, MN; Maria (Bret) Bunderson of Janesville, WI and Michael Batt of Rochester, MN; seven step-grandchildren; many step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; her daughter, Connie; her step-children, Willard Diesburg and Florence (Carl) Deutsch; her five brothers; Hubert, Emery, Otto, Clemens and Clemens and three sisters, Rose Wilde, Mary Lieffers and Ida Rueve.
