SHACKLOCK—At the residence of J M McCoy, in Cresco, Saturday morning, Jan. 8th, 1887, Caroline L. wife of Joseph Shacklock, aged fifty-five years.
Mrs. Shacklock had been a resident of Cresco only a few months, but in that time had made many warm friends. She was a woman of rare moral and intellectual worth, and during her life was connected with various leading newspapers of the land, among them, the New Orleans Times-Democart{sp} Mobile Register and Chicago Times, and was a favorite contributor to many other journals. She was a contributor to David Cook’s popular Sunday school publications, and many of her beautiful songs have been set to music and sung into the hearts of the children. Her select songs and stories sparkle with original wit and humor and betray a high order of literary talent Mrs. S., had been a consistent member of the Episcopal Church for thirty-five years and died in the triumphs of the christian faith.
Mr. Shacklock, left to loneliness and desolation, has the sympathy of the community in his affliction.
