Death of Bradford Hill.
Bradford Hill, an old and highly esteemed citizen, died at Lime Springs last Monday Aug. 31, 1885. The funeral services were held at his home on Tuesday, and were largely attended Rev. A. S. McConnell, of Cresco, preached the sermon, his topic being “A Hopeful View of Death.”
Bradford Hill was born in New Haven, Vermont, July 8, 1805. His father, Reuben Hill, emigrated to Genessee county, N. Y., in 1813, where the guns were heard from the neighboring battles of Chippewa, Niagara, Lundy’s Lane and others, during the War of 1812. In 1831 in married Catherine Cumings. In 1837 he visited Galena and Dubuque, returning to New York on foot. The next year he went with his family to Indiana, stopping three years; then to Wisconsin, where he settled upon a new farm in Jefferson county. In 1862 he went to Mantorville, Minn., and came to Lime Springs in 1868. Here he built the mill soon after and carried on the business in company with his son Fred. In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Hill celebrated their Golden Wedding to which anniversary they invited six childern{sp} with their families of nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and having in memory, besides, one daughter and one grandchild, who had gone before.
And now, peacefully and painlessly, he too is gone to his rest. His family remember him as a kind husband, a good father, an exemplary citizen, desiring to emulate him in his life and character.
