DIED.

PRESTON.—Jan 29th 1883, at the residence of his son-in-law, James Irving, R. G. Preston, aged 82 years.

Thus ends a long and useful life. More need not be said of that life. It has been a witness for itself. Quiet and unobtrusive in his kindly efforts to do good, his children felt that it would not be his wish to be lauded. Mr. Preston was a member of the church for nearly fifty years, mindful of her interests, ever solicitous of her welfare. His end was not unexpected. When too enfeebled with age to labor he waited with patient resignation the summons. Two days before his death he gratefully said he was not in much pain, as he feared he would be ere he was released. While called at a neighbors a short time since, in answer to a question, he said 22 years ago he taught in the Sunday school near Mr. Armstrong’s, and named each member of the class at that time. He said he was ready to go at any time, and was not afraid to die. So our father was taken away; he is dead, but his heroic efforts his self immolation in behalf of his family are treasured and still true in their innermost hearts, although the parting is sad and hard to bear, we find comfort and consolation in the thought that he has dropped the the{sic} cross of life and grasped the crown. To the friends whose aid and sympathy were so freely given, we tender our heartfelt thanks to you.—Tribune, Lime Springs.
