Floyd was born at home on the farm near Ackley, Iowa to Harry and Louise (Kies) Sinning on January 10, 1926. He was born on the farm because the snow was so deep that they couldn’t get around with the horse and sled. He with his one sister Bernice and three brothers: Surles, Wilbert and Harry ‘Red’ grew up on a 340 acre farm. Floyd graduated from Ackley High School in 1944. Floyd joined the Army on May 9, 1946 and was a MP (Military Police). He with over 300 soldiers went by ship to Korea and landed on September 30, 1946. Floyd was stationed around Seoul, South Korea as the U.S. Army helped get that country on its feet. Floyd was shipped back from Korea on September 4, 1947 and landed in Los Angeles, California on September 18, 1947. He was discharged from the U.S. Army on October 29, 1947 at the Separation Center, Camp Stoneman, California. After leaving the service he farmed near Ackley, Iowa. With money saved from the Army he bought a new Ford tractor, plow, planter, and a cultivator. He also worked as a mechanic. On May 9, 1952 he married Doris Anne Polley at the Berlin Church in Eldora, Iowa. They first lived in Cleves, Iowa where they farmed and operated a pool hall. In 1956 they moved to a 160 acre farm near Lime Springs, Iowa where they raised seven children; three daughters and four sons. Floyd farmed and also had a milk can route. For awhile he worked construction in Waterloo until a fall put him in a body cast. In the early 1960’s Floyd helped his nephew Harold with a stock car by working in the pit crew. They raced all over with a lot of races being in Cresco. Floyd worked other jobs as well. In 1967 he had a 30 x 200 chicken house built for laying hens. In 1969 he build another one with the help of his family. With these two chicken houses he had room for 25,000 laying hens! In 1991 he retired from farming and moved to Lime Springs. He started to build woodworking projects for craft shows and his grandchildren. In late fall he would start to put up Christmas Light displays. One light display was a reindeer jumping over a fence, another was a full size Nativity Scene. Floyd was active as a 4H leader and softball coach as he had 4 boys of his own. He loved to bowl on a league and play pool and cards. He served on the Farm Bureau Board and held office at the Lime Springs American Legion Post 545. In 2012 Floyd became a resident of the Cresco Care Center where he enjoyed bingo, paddle wheel and music events at the Care Center. Floyd is survived by seven children: Dennis (Cathy) Sinning of Washington, Michigan, Roger (Janet) Sinning of Kasson, Minnesota, Ann (Hubert) Rossol of Denver, Iowa, Mark (Pam) Sinning of Mantorville, Minnesota, Larry Sinning of Leland, Iowa, Norma (Charles) Kenning of Racine, Minnesota, and Karla (Ron) Kenning of Eagan, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two siblings: Bernice Heitland of Ackley, Iowa and Harry ‘Red’ (Marian) Sinning of Ackley, Iowa.
