Chas. Orson Barnes was born in Frankville Co., N.Y. April 24, 1853. When about four years of age he came west with his parents to Clayton Co., Iowa. Here he attended school and led the life of the average boy until 1866 when he with his parents moved to Howard county. He worked with his father and brothers on the old homestead in Vernon Springs township until 1880 when he went to Kansas, living in Osage Co. where he worked at the carpenters trade. About two years ago his general health began to fail and he finally decided to return to Cresco hoping that the change of climate would do him good. He accordingly came back to Iowa Jan. 28, 1900. But the change did not seem to be of any permanent benefit. For the past ten days he has been gradually growing weaker, but was confined to his bed only one week.
He died Sept. 20th at 10:15 a.m. at the home of his mother in this city. He leaves a mother and three brothers to mourn his loss.
The funeral was conducted Sunday a.m. at the home of his mother Mrs. A. Barnes by Rev. Holmes, and his grave is in Oak Lawn.
