Mel was born October 22, 1951 in Rapid City, S.D. to Oral and Phyllis (Fishbaugher) Johnson. He grew up in Harmony, MN and graduated from Harmony High School in 1969. Through the years Mel worked at Rochester Silo, drove semi, worked at Johnson Comfort Systems, owned Rendezvous Lounge in Lime Springs and currently owned and operated Johnson Lawn Care. He was married to Peggy Remick and they were later divorced in 1978 he married Cindy Unverzagt. Mel was an avid fan of the Twins and Vikings. He is survived by his wife Cindy Johnson of Lime Springs; three sons: Michael (Heather Godwin) Johnson of Taopi, MN, Daniel (Tracy) Johnson of Stewartville, MN and Matt (Megan) Johnson of Coggon, IA; five grandchildren: Skylar, Everett, Journey, Jaelyn and Easton; his mother and step-father Phyllis and Gene Hageman of Harmony, MN; a sister; Peggy Schneider of Lime Springs, IA; his mother-in-law: Beverly Unverzagt; brothers and sisters-in-law: Terry (Kathy Lentz) Unverzagt and Rich (Lisa) Unverzagt; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Mel was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law; paternal and maternal grandparents.

Visitation:
11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.

1:15 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.
