Donald Carroll, age 88, of Elma, IA passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Colonial Manor in Elma.

Donald L. Carroll was born on January 17, 1926 to Claude and Bernice (O’Dell) Carroll on the family farm near Lourdes, IA. After receiving his education Don began his farming career with his father. On August 28, 1946, don was untied in marriage to Arldine Halvorson at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The couple made their home in rural Elma where they raised their four children, Wayne, Barbara, Robert and David. Don retired from farming in 1971 and purchased Lourdes Store and Don’s Saddle Inn in Elma.

Don enjoyed raising horses and snowmobiling. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Don is survived by his children; Wayne (Deborah) Carroll, Barbara (Jim) Knecht both of Marysville, KS; Robert (Jane) Carroll and David (Pam) Carroll both of Cresco, IA; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Joan Halvorson of New Hampton; his brother-in-law, Alger (Arlene) Halvorson of Eagan, MN and his special friend, Connie Schmitt of Elma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arldine; his brother, Everett Carroll and his sister Betty Carroll.
