Lee and Intern Gail Hermodson officiated. Pallbearers were: Jeff Boeke, D.C. Randle, Gregg Boeke, Ed Squires, Samuel Boeke, Scott Boeke, Michael Boeke, and Charlie Boeke. Martin, 90, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at the Regional Health Services of Howard County.

Martin M. Boeke was born September 20, 1910 in Hubbard to H.S. and Lizzie Boeke. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical and Reformed Church and attended school in Hubbard. He enrolled in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa, graduated in 1930, and was licensed as a registered pharmacist.

On July 3, 1932 he married Margaret Sater.

His professional life centered on his practice of pharmacy. He first spent a few months in Illinois, being "too young" to practice in Iowa, then five years in Steamboat Rock. In 1932 he purchased the Boeke Drug Store in Wellsburg and operated this business until 1964 when he moved to Cresco to work with his son in the Boeke Pharmacy. He gradually retired but held his license and did part-time work until he was 88 years old.

Martin lived an active and involved life in his profession, his community, and his church.

Martin served in many offices and as president of the Iowa Pharmacist' Association in 1965. He was also a lifetime president emeritus of the Iowa Veteran Druggists Association. He is especially remembered for the memorial services he conducted for deceased pharmacists at the annual conventions. He was active in the Wellsburg Community Club, the Fire Department, the Boy Scouts, and worked to maintain health care services to their town. He continued this community involvement in Cresco. He served on the Board of Directors of The Evans Memorial Home, the Public Health Advisory Committee, the scheduler for the Escort Service at the Regional Hospital, and, at 90 years, was on the call committee for the Cresco Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by one son: Gary; many grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife Marge; his parents; three brothers; Elmer, Art and Oscar and one sister: Ruth.
